Background of myIT-School
myIT-School was established in 1998 by HKUST R & D Corporation Limited as its subsidiary, with the specialized area on the development of software education platforms and administrative systems, such as school-based intranets and e-learning solutions. With more than 10 years of dedication and hard work, we have become the largest online platform supplier in the education sector, with a client base of over 800 primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Hong Kong & Macau.
Over the years, we have developed a variety of innovative products and gained the recognition of the education sector. Among our products, Library Master, launched in 2004, is one of the leading products in the market. Owing to the user-friendly features and high functionality of Library Master, myIT-School gained more than 60% market share and won the “IT Excellence Awards 2002”.
In addition, our software applications and intranets were adopted by over 60% school users. To enhance the operating efficiency of school administration and teaching effectiveness, as well as helping students to achieve intended learning outcomes, we are engaged by our partner schools in more than 600 school base development projects.
In recent year, our business has been expanded to Macau. In recognition of our extensive experience and expertise in the development of software education platforms, we were awarded the contract for a school management and student profile system by the Direcção dos Serviços de Educação e Juventude’s (DSEJ – 澳門教育暨青年局) in 2007. We then become the first company providing a full set of IT solutions to government schools in Macau.
Development of myID
Foreseeing that mobile learning will be the future learning mode, myIT-School started to develop e-learning device in 2007. Shortly afterwards, we collaborated with a consulting team consisting of experts on scientific research & academics, teaching practitioners from partner schools, representatives from parent-teacher associations (PTA) and hardware manufacturers to explore the development of the device.
Being the first-of-its-kind product, myID combines the functions of an e-book and those of a personal computer, and is designed for content sharing and interactive learning. By the adoption of novel technologies, myID can embed the learning and administrative platforms and intranet of a school with WiFi.
Having undergone the pilot test for a year, invaluable opinions from users were received. In 2009, myID v2 was developed and the device was formally launched to the market. In this more sophisticated version, learning content can be updated at regular intervals upon connection to the school e-learning platform, thereby facilitating the idea of “learning on the go”. We believe that the development of myID would lay a solid foundation for interactive learning in schools.
